Hockey Regina and the Regina Pats announced Wednesday a three-year renewal of their long-standing partnership; the agreement will see impactful funding directed to the minor hockey association over the length of the agreement, with dedicated funding directed specifically to female hockey.
The two organizations have worked in partnership for over a decade and look forward to continued work to grow the game of hockey in the community. The Regina Pats have long been connected to minor hockey, with multiple players and staff having come through Hockey Regina including current players Sam Oremba, Kolten Bridgeman and Kelton Pyne; Head Coach, Brad Herauf; Assistant General Manager, Dale Derkatch; Manager of Hockey Operations, Tristan Frei; and CEO, Gordon Pritchard. This agreement recognizes the grassroots to high performance cycle of hockey, while supporting development in every tier in every division. It also directs substantial funding directly to the female stream of Hockey Regina, joining several supports and focused intentions to grow the female game within Regina.
“It is a very exciting time as a whole for women’s hockey with the launch of the PWHL and successes of events like the Rivalry Series, hosted at the Brandt Center to a sold out crowd,” noted Hungle, the Executive Director of Hockey Regina, who also played her minor hockey through Hockey Regina to go on to receive a full athletic scholarship and then come back to work within the organization.
“Hockey is an incredible sport, that builds lifelong skills and character giving our participants a foundation of success into their futures, Hungle continued, and ultimately supporting the development of life long healthy, active, successful members of our community. As an organization, we are aimed at building community through hockey and this agreement supports that endeavor whole heartedly in all streams of our programming.”
“We are very excited and proud to continue our partnership with Hockey Regina, supporting the development of players and the growth of the game at the grassroots level” said Regina Pats CEO Gordon Pritchard. “Our two organizations have been working together for over a decade and the renewal of this partnership demonstrates our continued commitment to minor hockey in Regina, as well as an opportunity to expand our initiatives by directing specific support to the Regina Rebels program and the growth of women’s hockey.”
Hockey Regina is excited to continue this long-standing partnership with the Pats and look forward to advancing our programming with this support.
