Hockey Regina product, Colby Williams, was selected 135th overall (7th round) by the Washington Capitals in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.
Colby played his entire minor hockey in Regina. He played in the former Flyers zone before playing 2 seasons in Bantam AA with the Canucks and Oilers. Colby played 2 seasons with the Midget AAA Pat Canadians before moving to the Regina Pats. Williams, 20, has spent the last three seasons (2012-15) with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The 5’11”, 191-pound defenseman earned career-highs in goals (11), assists (30), points (41) and penalty minutes (95) in 64 games with the Pats last season. Williams ranked second on the team in penalty minutes and tied for fifth in assists. In 192 games with the Pats, Williams has registered 92 points (20g, 72a) and 249 penalty minutes.
Also selected in the 2015 NHL Draft was former Pat Canadian Sam Ruopp who was selected in the 5th round (129th overall) by the Columbus Blue Jackets . Sam played his entire Minor Hockey with Prairie Storm.
