HRI Members,
With the hockey season underway it is great to see the kids back at the rink working hard in evaluations and the level of excitement about the season. Evaluation time is a period of high emotion and expectations for the coming winter. HRI’s goal is reliable and valid player evaluations leading to the creation of balanced competitive teams.
I thought I would take this opportunity to remind parents that interfering in the draft/team selection process through the usual, “don’t pick my kid” approach or other such behaviour will not be tolerated by the board and may result in disciplinary sanction against the parent and or player. It will be awfully difficult for your child to be successful in evaluations when they are sitting on the sidelines.
Our coaches have enough concerns in building a team, establishing goals for a season and leading those same teams through the year. If you are so concerned regarding who your child may or may not be picked by may I suggest you attain your coaching certification and apply for a head coach position in future.
If you believe you have a legitimate concern (i.e. extenuating circumstance) regarding possible coach and player pairings, please raise this with the division director responsible.
Yours in hockey,
Stephen Eger, President HRI
