Consistent with Hockey Regina¦s objective of providing a positive experience for players and promoting respect for all involved, HRI is pleased to announce that it will be participating in the Respect in Sport (RiS) Parent Program for the 2012/2013 Season.
This one hour on-line certification program is intended to assist parents in being the best sport parent they can be. The program focuses on children¦s safety, personal, psychological and physical development and the role parents¦ play. It also impresses the need to establish positive relationships with referees, coaches, players, opponents & other parents.
HRI is pleased to offer the Respect in Sports Parents Program to its membership, and join a number of minor sports organizations across the country that have already done so.
A Pre-Registration code (which was supplied to HRI members) must be entered during program registration to bypass the payment. If you do not have the code please contact the HRI office.
Impact to HRI registration process HRI player registrations for the 2012/2013 season will require completion of this on-line course by one parent or guardian for the player(s) under their care.Players will not be completely registered and they will not receive an invitation to evaluations until the RiS certificate has been provided. A field to record the certificate number has been added to the HRI registration forms for the 2012/2013 season. Record the RiS certificate number in the space provided on the registration form.
Deadline for completion Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to take this course as soon as possible and include the certificate number on all player registration forms in March 2012. In the event the certificate number cannot be provided when the team collects the registration forms in March, the course must be completed and the certificate number communicated to the HRI office prior to evaluations. E-mail the certificate number and the corresponding HRI number of the player(s) to plysak@hockeyregina.ca. To avoid any delays in processing the registrations and in scheduling players into evaluation sessions, parents and guardians are advised to complete this course well ahead of September 1, 2012. Regiatration and evaluation confirmations will not be sent until the RiS certificate number is communicated to the HRI office.

How is Respect in Sport implemented? The Respect in Sport Parent Program is presented as an online curriculum and includes audio/visual presentations.
Who is required to take the course? At this time, HRI requires one parent or guardian in each family to take the course. The certificate of completion applies to all players under their care. Ideally this is the parent or guardian most involved in the sports activities. Families are also encouraged to review the content together.
What equipment is required to complete the program? All that is required to complete the Respect in Sport curriculum is a computer, an Internet connection and speakers or headset. Optional equipment includes a printer to print out your certificate of completion.
What if I don¦t have a high-speed connection? The course is designed to be accessible from any computer using dial-up or high-speed internet. Once registered, the user experience is the same at any speed.
What is I don¦t know anything about computers? Through extensive research and development, the program was designed, first and foremost, to be user friendly. There is also an on-line (Help÷ feature and 1-800 support line available.
Is there a paper version of the program? No, by design. Respect in Sport¦s on-line courseware eliminates the need for your organization to absorb printing, mailing and administration costs. Respect in Sport also gives you ongoing access to the course once you¦ve completed it, as an online resource.
What if I don¦t have a computer? Families are encouraged to use a computer from friends or families. Alternatively, the public library may be considered.
How long is the course? It¦s a total of 1 (one) hour.
Do I have to take it all at once? No. You can do it at your leisure, come and go as required. The program remembers where you left off and brings you back to that point when you next sign-in. You can even do it from different computers.
Do I have to take the course every year? No. Once you¦ve completed the course you¦re done.
What if I¦ve taken this course in another province, can I transfer the certification? If a family has taken the RiS course while in another province and have the certificate number, it simply needs to be communicated to HRI.
