The City of Regina is currently working through a budget process with a Council directive to identify options to reduce $60 million from the City’s annual operating budget. Final decisions and changes to the operating budget will ultimately be determined by Council during budget deliberations from December 15–19.
One of the potential options for budget reduction is the potential lease, sale or closure of the Kinsmen and Optimist arenas. As the largest user group of indoor ice facilities in Regina, Hockey Regina schedules over 800 events between these two arenas totaling over 950 hours of ice.
If you wish to share your feedback about the impact of these potential budget reduction options, you may contact your councilor for your ward at https://www.regina.ca/city-government/city-council/city-councillors/
